Testing the new Saturn SKY: Review of the new Saturn SKY

The brand new Saturn SKY is yet another pleasant surprise from the European market, well poised to capture the U.S market. The Saturn SKY combines opulence with performance and reliability and affordable pricing to make an ideal buy. One look at this sports car is enough to turn heads on the road. Reviewers say that you could buy this car if you are mainly interested in a car that looks great. The exteriors definitely score well but performance-wise, this car has competition out there.

For those interested in having some fun under the sun without depleting your bank account, this roadster is for you. There is a special edition Carbon Flash trim as well, among the regular trims. Of course, this car is a classy example of the auto maxim ‘do not judge a car by its looks’, but it does not disappoint entirely. The engine is not too brilliant at times, with a bumpy performing car on tough roads. But the looks and stylish interiors and exteriors seem to compensate. SKY is good looking but not very easy to handle. Just like the Pontiac Solstice, this particular roadster is a front engine, rear wheel driven combination design. It is a 2 seat sports roadster.

The car has StabiliTrak electronic stability control for greater sense of control. The audio system for entertainment includes an XM Satellite Radio and Monsoon audio system, tone control, speed-controlled volume, 6 speaker stereo. The car has a dominating stance and a rigid, purposeful chassis. The hood vents are well-designed, and the dash-to-axle look is great. The exterior has a new color option: Techno Gray. The interior has a good instrument panel and the leather seats are comfortable with adjustable driver’s seat. Even the steering wheel is leather wrapped. Apart from the standard features, customers can opt for their preferred packages as well. The premium trim package, for instance, offers a leather shift knob.

The special torque beam in the 5 speed manual transmission eliminates harsh noise for a smooth drive. Minimum body roll and lateral acceleration ability is found in this model. The disc braking is very responsive. Overall, this car passes the test, but could score much better.

Engine: 3 out of 5….. not that powerful considering the SKY is supposed to be a sports car.
Transmission: 3 out of 5…. Good.

Handling: 3 out of 5… okay but could mprove.

Safety: 4 out of 5 … very good, sophisticated safety features.

Value 3 out of 5… The trims go up to $30,000. affordable sports car.
