Review of new Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class:Testing Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class

The new Mercedes-Benz CLS class is frequently termed as the most beautifully built Mercedes-Benz. It is a four door sedan with the looks of a coupe. When it comes to interior comfort also it is a very comfortable sedan meant for four passengers.

The new Mercedes-Benz CLS class line comes in two trims and both of them feature V8 engines which are brand new. The baseline model is the CLS550. This trim is equipped with a 5.5 lt. V8 engine with 382 hp, which was introduced first in the S550. This engine is much more powerful compared to the previous one, that too without sacrificing fuel-economy ratings.

The super-fast CLS63 AMG is has been given a new, 6.2 lt. V8 hand built engine. The CLS63 is capable of 507 hp and 469 pound-feet torque. This fact places it amongst the most powerful cars with four doors available in the market. The new CLS63 has also been given a seven-speed transmission as compared to the five-speed one previously used for AMG cars.

Though both the CLS models are par excellence when it comes to performance, it is their look which makes them stand apart from other cars in this category. Technically the 2008 Mercedes-Benz CLS class can be termed as a sedan as it is a four-door car, but Mercedes terms it as a coupe with four doors. But the great looks are accompanied with a sacrifice in terms of inner space. The CLS model has only four seats and same number of seat belts, whereas the E-class models have five.

However, when it comes to technology there are no compromises in the 2008 Mercedes-Benz CLS class. It has an air-spring suspension which automatically becomes more firm or softer as per the road conditions. The CLS is equipped with a wide range of Mercedes’ standard safety features which include air bags for side impact for the rear passengers and its skid-management technology is one of the most advanced. Approximately 70% of steel used in its frame and body is a galvanized and high-strength. The clear coat layer of paint contains tiny particles of ceramic, which makes the paint 300% more scratch resistant as compared to more conventional finishes.

The new Mercedes-Benz CLS class stands unique in the category of luxury sedans. The interior of the CLS550 has leather seats which have a memory of three-position and four-zone climate control which is automatic. It also has a 12 speaker audio system manufactured by Harman/kardon and wood trims which are hand-rubbed.

The CLS63 is equipped with air suspension which is tuned to give a sharper response and more flat cornering, larger than normal Z-rated tires and very powerful brakes. It has a seven-speed automatic transmission which is equipped with paddle shifters from Speedshift, which allow the car to work as though it is a manual transmission sans a clutch paddle.

The AMG Sport model includes the braking, handling and the looks of the Mercedes-Benz CLS63 to the model CLS550 sans its big engine. Hence both the CLS models are the most beautifully crafted high performance, luxury sedans available in the market.
