Nissan Frontier Crew Cab Review: new Nissan Frontier Crew Cab on road

The Nissan Frontier Crew Cab is a compact 5 passenger and 4 door vehicle which comes in 10 trims. This vehicle is fitted with a standard V6, 4 liter, 261 horsepower engine which achieves 16 mpg while driving in the city and on the highway it achieves 20 mpg. This 2008 model is a carryover of the 2007 one. This Nissan Frontier is the first crew cab pickup which is COMPACT. This is the only pick in a small size which has 4 front hinged standard size doors, which can accommodate 5 passengers and has a bench seat in the rear which is forward facing. This vehicle is suitable for every day use and also comfortable.

Comfortable interiors and seating

The forward facing of the passenger seats in the rear is a more comfortable position than the one that is facing sideways. The legroom and the head room in the rear is more than sufficient for the passengers. The seats are upright with a pair of head rests that are adjustable for the height position. This is also a safety measure as the heads of the passengers are rather close to the window glass in the rear. The two door panels with rear hinges make entering and disembarking from the rear of the vehicle much more comfortable.  As the bed in the Nissan Frontier Crew Cab is not too long – it is only 56.3 inches in length – there is a portion that can be extended in the cargo space which flips over and creates a longer area for the bed.

For the cargo space there are load dividers both in the horizontal and vertical position which keeps the load in place. This apart there are bed hooks which are provided for tie downs. New accessories are being developed for carrying snowboards and bikes, a roof rack for skiis and lockable tonneau.

Technical equipment

Standard V6 3.3 liter engines are fitted on all the Frontier Crew Cabs. The horsepower rating is 170 with a torque of 22 lbs. ft. It is also equipped with a standard manual transmission of 5 speed and can tow almost 3500 lbs. However, with an automatic transmission of 4 speed the towing capacity can be up to 5000 lbs. The 4 X  4 crew cab’s part time system four wheel drive is equipped with an automatic locking system for the front hubs. The brakes are of the 4 wheel ABS type.

Interiors and seating

There are bucket type of seats in the front with a console in the center and armrest. Air conditioning, and power steering give added handling comfort and the rear windows have privacy glass. For the entertainment of the passengers, there is a stereo system which has 6 speakers and has an AM / FM and cassette player too. For the fuel tank there are skid plates for the engine and the fuel tank and tires which are 15 inches. The upholstery in the vehicle is cloth.

Safety features of the Frontier Crew Cabs

The safety features which are standard equipment are dual airbags for the front, with shoulder belts that are head adjustable and are with pretensioners. There is a crumple zone in the front and protection for key lock out. The passengers on the outer sides have head restraints and three point seat belts, but those in the middle have no head restraint and only a lap belt.
