Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder Review: new Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder

The latest version of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder was introduced in 2006 and has been a roaring success since then, even more than the previous Spyder model.

The current Mitsubishi ES is also equipped with the Sirius satellite radio which ideally complements the premium Rockford-Fosgate audio system which was already installed in the previous models. The Sirius satellite radio system allows digital sound, coast-to-coast coverage and 120 channels some of which are free commercially. It is also equipped with LED tail lamps and head lamps with monocle lens.

The Mitsubishi is available in two trims. The Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GS model has a 162 hp and 2.4 lt. engine with four cylinders. This car has a five-speed manual transmission. Optionally an automatic four speed transmission is also available. The second trim level available is the Mitsubishi Eclipse-Spyder GT which has a 260 hp and 3-8 ltr V6 engine which is combined optionally with either 6-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed automatic one. The Spyder GT has all the features of a high end sports convertible and is still reasonably priced at $26,000 and above.

The GT model with the 6-speed manual transmission can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 7 seconds. In order to improve the driving experience both the automatic transmission models are equipped with SportronicTM shifters to allow manual control of the gear shift.

Both the four-cylinder and V6 version of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder are equipped with the unique Mitsubishi Innovative Valve Timing Electronic Control (MIVEC) which optimizes the efficiency and power of the engine over a wide speed range. The exhaust systems of both the Spyder models have been designed especially to give a powerful and deep note using an oversized tailpipe.

As far as its design is considered the Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder stands apart with its striking exterior design, which is very different from the usually traditional and sometimes retro styling seen with most convertible sports cars. Compared to other cars in its category the Spyder has a longer lasting and enduring effect on the mind of the onlooker, compared to other cars of its category. Its fenders arches are athletic in style and its front fascia is inspired by wind tunnel styling. Its rear spoiler is integrated with its arching C-pillar. Hence the Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder has carved out its own outstanding and unique design.

As far as its design is concerned the Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder was awarded the GOOD DESIGNTM award by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design. This organization is the only architecture and design museum in the United States along with the Metropolitan Arts Press Ltd. This award was decided by an international jury which chose entries from eighteen categories entering from twenty five countries. The Spyder was one of the two cars to win the Good Design award. The other car was the Mitsubishi Concept CT.

Hence considering all the features sported by the Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder, its striking looks and reasonable pricing, it is the best bet in the market.
